Now that WON.NET has finally met
its maker, we now have had to find alternate methods of playing
our league games. One method is the use of Kali servers.
However, before using Kali, you will need to follow these
instructions.
Go to
http://www.kali.net/
and download the latest version of Kali. It used to be that Kali
was free but now that is no longer the case. You can download a
"trial" version of the software and play via the MNF Lobby
Server but there is the possibility that you could get bumped
off at any time as the trial download is only supposed to allot
you so much time. You can get a lifetime license with Kali for a
mere $10 fee.
There are
basically three methods for setting up a game in Kali
1)Game Lobbies(the option that
is listed below)
2)The Monday Night Football
Room. For Instructions on how to use the MNF Room, click
here.
3)Server Mode. For Server Mode
Instructions, click
here.
There are some basics to
setting up FBPro98 for Kali. Steps 1-24 show how to set the
game up for game lobby play. However, there are some
configuration settings that need to be followed in order to have
smooth game play. To get further information on setting up for
the MNF Room and Server Mode, you can click on the links above
for each respective method of connectivity. Steps 25-35 are
what need to be followed once the game has started via Kali.
Before playing a game in Kali,
please be sure to do the following.
1) Turn off firewalls and any virus software. You should be able
to use your router with Kali.
2) Turn off built in firewall in
Windows XP. Also, set compatibility mode to Windows 95. Win98
will tend to kick out coaches who try to start a game.
3)Prior to setting up FbPro98,
it might be a good idea to go in and change some proxy settings
within Kali. This can be accomplished by going to File and then
Clicking on Settings.

4)
After clicking on settings, select Proxy. From here, you will
need to put a check in "Enable Special NAT/Proxy Handling."

5)
Highlight the game resources folder and right click and choose
“Add Custom Game”.

6) Where it says Game name your
game. (Ex: FBPRO 98)
7) Where it says program you need
to browse to where the hike.exe is kept.
(Ex:
C:\SIERRA\FbPro98\Hike.exe)
8) Command line
is where the –l (-"L" but lowercase) goes so that a log will be
created.
9) Make sure that the “Needs
WinSock support” box is checked.

10) Now Click on "Change" which
will change the Question Mark
11)From there,
find your Hike.Exe file and click on "open"

12) It should now look like this.

From
here, you will need to make sure that some additional settings
are made prior to starting a game. Go to the "Special" tab
under the Game Settings box and make sure that both boxes are
unchecked. However, there have been some who indicate that for
those who use Dial Up against a Broadband connection, that it
would be best to have "Allow Kali to drop packets to speed up
game" CHECKED but leave the "Drop packets that are out of order"
UNCHECKED. This will lead to shorter hangups and still allow the
game to continue keeping packets in order. For those with fast
connections, the extra packet setting should be at "2." However,
if you are using DialUp connection, it is recommended that the
extra packets setting be moved to "3."

13) Hit ok.
14) It will now show under game
resources folder under My Games.

15) Go up to Game Lobbies and see
the FBPRO 98.
16) Highlight it and select
“Start New Game

17) Game options come up. Change
the number of players to two and also change extra packets to 0.
18) Hit ok.

19) This screen will now come up.

20) Now the other player can join
the room.
21) See the Ready to Rumble
that’s the chat line to talk to each other before game.
22) Now the visitor will click
the launch button and hit ready.
23) The host will now click the
launch button and select start game.
24) Now the actual FBPRO 98 game
should launch.

25) Select Online Remote Play.
26) Select League
27) Select On-line and your
GAMExxxx.in

28) Choose Network/Modem

29) Now this screen will come up.

30)
Check the low latency.
31)
Don’t select "Internet TCP/IP Connection for Direct Play" as is
shown here. You want to check the IPX for direct play. If you DO
NOT see that option available, that means your computer does not
have the IPX protocol installed on your computer. You may need
to install it. If so, I would recommend finding your Operating
System CD prior to installing it on your system.
Note:
If you would like steps for installing the IPX Protocol then
click here if you are a Windows
98/ME user. If you use Windows 2000 or XP then
32) Now create game. As for the
opponent, he will need to "find game"
33) You will see waiting for
other player then the game will launch.
34) Now PLAY!
35) Don’t do anything at half it
will continue.
Thanks to Chartuck for taking the time to write most of this out
and for the screenshots as well as Paul Cabrera and Nolan Denson
for their work on this project as well.
